Last weekend was the Portes Ouvertes in Belleville, one of my favorite artist open atelier events of the year. Even if you don’t like the art (and so much of it is really wonderful), the neighborhood itself can be really charming if you get past the 1960 highrises.

To find the ateliers just look for the posters and don’t be shy! I explored with partner in crime for the day, Michelle, and our favorite street was Rue de la Villette, a street full of many new clothing, art and design boutiques.
Don’t worry if you missed this Portes Ouvertes, there are more around Paris. Next weekend is Lézarts de la Bièvre in the Butte aux Cailles and Gobelins districts of the 13th (my ‘hood) and 5th arrondissements, featuring over 100 artists. June 12-13, from 2-8pm. See the main “vitrine” at L’Espace L’Homond (21 rue L’Homond, 5th, M° Censier Daubenton) from June 10-13, 2-8pm.

I don’t know Belleville but this sounds like a great way to discover it….xv
I see we’ve been to the same place! This week-end there are also open doors around Bagnolet or La Vilette, I cannot remember !
