Little convenience stores can be found in almost every neighborhood in Paris. But they don’t all have the decorative fruit and vegetable displays that you’ll find at this one.

I don’t think I would have even noticed it, but my friend David Lebovitz pointed it out as we walked past last week. “I love this place.” There is, indeed, something mesmerizing about the way the grapes, bananas, sacks of shallots and plastic sunflowers are artfully arranged in front of the water bottles.

Notice, too, that the good bananas are just out of reach…the only bananas not hanging up are quite past “ripe”. If you happen to be walking around the Faubourg Poissonière in the 9th, you might see this stand, too.
