This kitsch Moroccan bar, under the same ownership as the chic 404 restaurant next door, and the very trendy Derrière restaurant found — bien sûr — behind the courtyard, is still one of the more popular watering holes of the Paris jet-set. The cosmopolitan clientele sit on pop-art styled paint-can stools, eating tapas and drinking North African wines, mojitos and mint tea with the latest raï music mixes playing in the background. There are often DJs from around Europe playing later in the evening (the suave Jimmy Sax sessions on Friday nights are not bad), when everyone tries to dance despite the cramped quarters. Smoskers tend to hang outside in the courtyard when it’s nice out (food served here in the summer). Open Monday-Saturday, noon-2am. Happy hour for half-priced cocktails.
I'm assuming you're talking about the Derrière and not Andy Wahloo, which is a bar. He pressured you into buying food you couldn't eat? Why didn't you just leave instead of ordering food you don't eat? Did they force you to stay as well? I've never in 16 years had a restaurant refuse to let me order just starters (even the eight years I was vegetarian).
The staff and manager of this restaurant were unbelievably rude to my friends and I when we booked to eat there last night. We chose to order a number of starters rather than a main course (being vegetarians). We were told this was unacceptable and the manager came over and harangued us in a bullying and offensive manner. He pressurised us into buying food that we were then unable to eat! This understandably spoilt our evening and we would never eat at this restaurant again or recommend it to anyone else!
This bar just underwent a relookage that I find unfortunate. I wrote about it here and linked back to sercretsofparis!http://lelittleredhouse.blogspot.com/
