There are now six eBay depôt vente (consignment) stores in Paris, called EncherExpert, where you can drop off your objects to sell without an appointment (Tues-Sat 11am-1:30pm & 3-7pm). If you have something too large to schlep over there, like a shelving unit, sofa, or old washing machine, they will even come and pick it up FOR FREE at your place.
And if they don’t sell your object, you don’t owe them a cent. If they do sell it, they get €5 per object sold plus 33% on anything under €1000 or 25% for anything over that (minimum value should be €30). That includes any eBay fees. Not too shabby for those of us who can’t be bothered with selling our junk online and dealing with photos, Q&As, packaging and shipping.
You can also buy from their eBay store and go see the actual objects at the eBay stores before bidding.
The only downside: you’re paid by check in “3-4 weeks”. So don’t be in a hurry.
But if it sells, they’re the ones who come and get it to arrange delivery.
In fact your information isn’t quite correct (I just rang them). For large objects they’ll come to your home and take photos for free, but the item stays where it is and, if they don’t sell it thats where it remains.
I love browsing French eBay. I have found so many wonderful things there. The only downside is that shipping to the U.S. is usually prohibitive.
