Review by Aileen O’Riordan
A good cheap place with atmosphere in the 18th near La Cigale. Comfortable, loud and filled with all manner of people, it’s a wonderful spot to pass an afternoon after a trek around Montmartre, or to find a neighbourhood feel in what can sometimes be pretty commercial area. The tartines and frites are tasty, however, depending on how busy it gets, service could be slow. During the summer, the terrace serves as a perfect vantage point for spotting the characters venturing around Pigalle.

Just to say that the restaurant over the road – La Marmite – makes for a very nice, reasonably priced meal. For a young englishman who has recently moved to Paris, it’s nice to find such a place near my house. What pleased me most was not the expertly prepared steak nor the different take on salad, but finding a restaurant on Rue de Clichy relatively untainted by the tourist-trap nature of montmartre.I shall have a drink in La Fourmi tonight, with good expectations.
