Now in Season: Cherries, Strawberries, Asparagus

Some of my favorite foods are just now coming into season in France. yesterday I stopped by one of the markets near Bastille and picked up a bag of Burlat cherries from Provence, a basket of French Gariguette strawberries that didn’t even make it home (except in my stomach), and a bunch of asperges allumettes, or matchstick asparagus, an amazingly thin yet tasty variety which I used to gather in the wild when I lived on the Côte d’Azur. I can tell you that I spent about €20 for this little feast, but once you’ve tried the best you’ll never go back to the cheap and tasteless varieties!

  • I’ve always been curious about the skinny little asparagus. They seem so expensive, but if the flavor is really that much better…

  • Me and my friends are headed off to the city of lights starting this Saturday/Sunday! This will be my second time. We are really looking forward to it. In preparation I found your site…glad I did. Cannot wait to partake of the seasonal produce (especially the strawberries!)
