Constructed in the XIVth century, the castle served as a royal residence and hunting ground, until it was converted into a state prison where many notable French historical figures were held.

Opening Hours: Guided tours daily except Monday. Château open daily 10am-6pm (until 5pm September 23-May20); chapel open 10:30am-1pm and 2pm-5:30pm. Closed January1, May 1, November 1, 11 and December 25.

Tickets: Adults €8.50, plus €4.50 for audio guide (or two audio guides for €6).

Free Entrance: Kids under 10.

Info and Services: Visits in English are scheduled in July and August.
