The French unashamedly adore chocolate, almost as much as I do. To celebrate the 400th anniversary of the arrival of chocolate in Europe in 1609, La Poste has created a block of chocolate-scented stamps. For those of you who didn’t know, hot chocolate was a pretty hot commodity in the French courts. It was served at the wedding of Louis XIII and Anne of Austria in 1615, and flowed freely at the buffets of Louis XIV in Versailles.
The block of 10 stamps (€0.56 each, for €5.60) is designed to look like a bar of chocolate, and does indeed smell like chocolate (reminds me of the scratch & sniff stickers of my childhood). A sheet of these limited edition stamps would make a great gift for your chocoholic friends, family, webmistress…just kidding, I already have mine!
Buy the stamps at any French post office or online (in franglais), while supplies last!
Send me something with a chocolate stamp! Yum. Now if we could get our bill collectors in on it, I might just open my mail! lol
