Be sure to get the right room in this three-star hotel, located on a quiet street two blocks from the Picasso Museum. The best ones are pictured on the Web site (particularly #1 and #2, just off the ground floor patio) with pretty pastel color palettes, dainty wrought iron furnishings, baldaquin canopies, and exposed wooden beams.

Unfortunately not all of the rooms have been renovated yet, and several have more of a ’70s look with drab colors, small bathrooms, and tired wooden furnishings. If you can get the promotional or low-season rates for one of the renovated rooms, and you’re more interested in staying in an historic building than having Internet access, then this is definitely worth it for the location.

Don’t worry too much about the lack of A/C. The thick stone walls keep the lower-level rooms relatively cool in summer.

23 rooms, elevator. Doubles from € 95- €115.
