This former 17th-century mansion and literary salon is known for its spacious rooms and friendly welcome. There are so many hotels in Paris that even little extras can really make them stand out. The cozy and luxurious Hotel d’Aubusson keeps the jazz spirit of St-Germain-des-Prés alive with live concerts in their Café Laurent every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night, 6:30-8pm and 9:30pm until midnight (free entry, drinks from 10 euros). In the main salon just off the lobby and bar is a massive fireplace and exposed wooden-beam ceiling. Rooms have an old French style typical of the Louis XV and Regency period of the early 1700s, decorated in  rich burgundies, greens, or blues. Toiletries are by Hermès, and even the smaller rooms are spacious for the Left Bank. There’s a patio courtyard (available for al fresco breakfast i the summer) with a second building housing three family-sized apartments. There are just 49 rooms. Be sure to ask if you want one with an exposed wooden beam ceiling. All returning guests (and new guests who book at least four days) get special VIP treatment such as Champagne and flowers on arrival. Rooms from €295.

  • Utterly wonderful. Service was excellent, the room large, cozy and very comfortable. Decked out in all its christmas finery, the whole place was very romantic. The 25 glorious pink roses and the champagne were added bonuses. Would recommend this hotel in an instant. Supurb! Location was excellent. Treat yourself!
