Detroit-born saxophonist Rick Margitza grew up surrounded by music; his father played with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, and his Hungarian Romani grandfather introduced him to the violin at age four. He studied jazz at Berklee and Loyola before touring with Maynard Ferguson and joining Miles Davis on the 1989 album ‘Amandla’. He recorded three Top 20 jazz albums with Blue Note Records, and played alongside McCoy Tyner, Chick Corea, and Maria Schneider, among many others before settling in Paris in 2003.
