Constructed under the orders of Marie de Médicis, this Florentine Palace is home to the French Senate.
Opening Hours: The Senate meets at the Palais du Luxembourg (in Luxembourg Gardens) September through June. Senate debates are open to the public Tuesday-Thursday (call to check the schedule at 01 42 34 20 01 or look on the website) . To visit the building itself outside sessions (one Saturday per month), contact the Centre des Monuments Nationaux, tel 01 44 54 19 49.

Info and Services: For free passes, show up with photo ID at the Senate “Accueil” 15, Rue Vaugirard, 6th, ten minutes before the session starts. Ask for the English brochure and try and get a seat in the top row or aisle if you want some legroom. With the look of a grand theatre, the sessions take place in the red velvet, gold and marble chamber where Napoleon once officiated. The magnificent Luxembourg Gardens are open free to the public.
