Paris in August

I’m amazed how many people still hesitate to visit Paris in August. It’s true that 20 years ago the whole city seemed to shutter up for the holidays, and even today most of the offices and business services are closed. But aside from the smaller shops and the predominantly residential districts in west Paris (7th, 15th, 16th), you’ll still find almost everything else open in August: hotels (usually at a steep discount), museums, monuments, grocery stores, department stores, public transport, etc. You will neither starve nor die of boredom. This is Paris, after all! In fact, it’s usually the best time of year for free open-air cultural events and al fresco dining with the added bonus of less traffic from Parisians and suburban commuters. This month’s “Six Secrets of Paris” focuses on the fun you can have in Paris in August.
