On Friday – Fred’s and my last full day in Bormes-les-Mimosas – we all got a break from the kitchen with a day visiting friends of the family in Le Lavandou. This photo essay covers the “Vieille Ville” and two of the beaches along this sprawling beachfront town.
If Bormes-les-Mimosas is the chic perched village of stylish boutiques and upscale restaurants, and Cap Bénat is its tranquil residential district overlooking the coast where families can spread out, Le Lavandou is the popular beachfront town where all the “action” is. Think of it a bit like the Mediterranean version of the Boardwalk, where groups of friends rent apartments or fill up the budget hotels within walking distance of the beach, which is lined with lively open-air bars and cheesy tourist shops. If you don’t have a car or other private transport to get around, or are looking for the local pick-up scene, this is probably the best place to base yourself.
